At the heart of Trivolity’s manicured lawns, a murder party turns deadly, and two retired investigators must race against time to catch a killer hiding behind polite smiles. The quiet community of active adults is suddenly a maze of blackmail, jealousy, and buried secrets. With each body found, the stakes rise, and the detectives uncover a web that threatens to unravel the entire neighborhood. Their friendship is tested, their instincts sharpened, and their determination grows. They dig into hidden motives, sift through false alibis, and confront the truth that no one in Trivolity thought would surface. In this emotional, tightly plotted mystery, the reader is drawn into a world where the smallest detail can change everything. The story balances humor, suspense, and heart‑warming moments, making it a perfect companion for fans of cozy mysteries who crave depth and charm. If you love a good whodunnit with strong characters and a touch of Southern hospitality, this novel will keep you turning pages until the final reveal.

Lake Norman Writers Guild is a group of authors living in a North Carolina Active Adult Community. As a lark, they thought it would be fun to write a cozy mystery together. One that takes place in a community just like theirs, but not exactly.

Oh, and they’re all still alive…for the moment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Cozy!
I just read Auras of Deceit over the Thanksgiving weekend, and enjoyed every page! Plenty of interesting characters to love — and some to hate. Looking forward to the next installment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder They Wrote
How a group of writers came together to write a cozy mystery is a puzzle to me, but it works! This was a fun read, despite the murder. So many of the characters seemed incapable of murder that I had to keep wondering which one was guilty.

Movin’ South
5.0 out of 5 Stars If you live in a 55+ community, you know these people!
No matter where it is, if you live in a 55+ community* you’ll recognize all the character types, activities, rumor mills, and unpredictable twists and turns of PIPs (Previously Important People) set free in a whole new setting with the overlay of occasional aging wiring, various substances, and fading inhibitions. Written by five people in a 55+ community writers’ club who decided to see what they could invent writing as a group, starting from the first chaptees, not the ending–a remarkable feat in and of itself that they pulled off and still stayed friends. Each came from a completely different writing perspective, from memoirs to scifi to historical fiction to deep criminal justice experience, and it makes for a whimsical blend of characters and intrigue. Enjoy! *In the community where the authors and I live, I’d say the “55+” average age is closer to 70, and the book covers the whole gamut. Your friends are in this!
